There is power that comes to one when they give birth. They don’t ask for it, it simply invades them, accumulates like clouds on the horizon and passes through, carrying the child with it.” I love this sentiment, and this is why I do what I do. I understand that birth is a powerful experience for most, and especially with first time parents, it is hard to know what to expect. Already having worked with children for most of my life, it only made sense to me that my next steps would be to, in turn, help out birthing persons as well. I personally have gone through a complicated birth, and I believe that having had a doula support me mentally, emotionally, and physically, would have changed my birth experience, and my birth story. I believe in the power of having additional support in tandem with your personal support system. As your doula I pride myself in my ability to encourage you, remind you of your goals and values, while providing relevant information so that you may be able to make the best decisions for you and your baby. You have the power of choice, and I honor your power completely, and with no judgement. Be it a moment of strength and triumph, or vulnerability, I will serve you with compassion. As a powerlifter and a mother, I have seen many parallels between holding the weight of the iron, and the birthing experience. The body knows more about itself and what it needs than we give it credit for. Given the right conditions the body is capable of awe inspiring things, and the miracle that is birth and the first few months after are no exception. I am here to hold space for birthing persons and their families, in a way that can provide emotional and physical support in addition to helping provide resources for education and understanding about the journey of new life. My goals are strongly rooted in encouraging and helping to foster autonomy and to amplify the inner voice of the birthing person. I know how hard it can be to feel unheard, so let me be your bullhorn. In addition to setting up a birth plan and solidifying the process, my goal is to help both during and after birth to set you up for your future with your new family. Every family is going to have different needs, and as such I play a different role in every situation. My purpose is to facilitate a feeling of confidence and ease for every family coming into the world of parenthood. I am all too familiar with postpartum effects and the ups and downs that come with it. Research shows that there are countless benefits to postpartum support. These benefits include lower rates of mood disorders, higher chest feeding success rates, deeper bonds between parents and baby, along with more confidence and competence with parenting skills. All demographics are deserving of a healthy and helpful birth and postpartum experience. My desire is to help provide care and assistance during labor, postpartum, and even further than that, to anyone and everyone that is beginning their journey as new parents. Together we can make a major life event go just a bit smoother, just a bit healthier, and with just a bit more sleep.
