Birth Doulas are trained childbirth professionals
who provide non-medical assistance to pregnant people and their families in preparation for labor, childbirth and parenting…
This can include identifying birth goals and strategies, providing additional education and resources, and hands-on emotional and physical support. Everyone has a right to evidence-based information and informed consent during the labor and birth process. Access to a full range of birthing options and choices is very important to birthing families. House of Doula members offer evidence-based information to assist these families in making informed decisions. They agree to honor the choices and support their clients in the decisions they make for their birth experience.
Doulas do not offer medical advice
or perform medical or clinical procedures, or make medical decisions for their clients. Labor and childbirth is the first parenting experience that many couples have to face together. A birth doula is the personalized support person, coach, and guide in the birth process. Doulas do not replace the partner or family during childbirth. Instead, they support parents in communicating their needs and fears about childbirth, assist the family in defining their birth preferences, and share how they can best support them in achieving an empowering birth together.
Birth Doulas are with their clients continuously from the beginning of labor as requested (in the home too) through the entire labor and birth process and up to 2 hours after to help establish good breastfeeding practices if that is desired. At least one in-home visit after the birth is included as well. There is always a backup doula to relieve if births go over 24 hours or the doula is not immediately available. There is no charge for the backup service. All House of Doula members offer their Birth Doula services as a package with an all-inclusive price that ranges from $800 to $1600 depending on experience and training. There is never an hourly rate charged for Birth Doula Services or for the interview process.
